Cruising the Turkish Riviera: A Yacht Itinerary

The Turkish Riviera, or the 'Blue Coast', boasts over 1,000 km of stunning coastline, dotted with ancient ruins and idyllic harbours. As a yacht broker with NewSail, I can tell you that planning a cruise here is both rewarding and memorable, especially when you consider the unique blend of culture and natural beauty that Turkey offers.

Starting in Bodrum, known for its vibrant nightlife and historic castle, you can fill your first evening with fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants, such as Kocadon. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the Bodrum Cup, a traditional wooden yacht race, usually held in October. Marina berthing prices here range from €70 to €120 per night, depending on the season.

Next, sail to Gökova Bay, where the Mistral winds create ideal sailing conditions—perfect for those who enjoy a bit of wind in their sails. The bay is surrounded by pine forests and offers several secluded coves. Don't miss Cleopatra Island, famous for its unique sand and ancient ruins. Be sure to stock up on provisions before anchoring; prices can be steep in remote areas.

From Gökova, head to Marmaris, a bustling port town that seamlessly blends modernity and tradition. Spend a night at Marmaris Marina, where the berthing costs typically start at €80. Explore the local bazaar for textiles and spices. If you're feeling adventurous, consider a day trip to Datça, known for its unspoiled beaches and lush landscapes.

After Marmaris, make your way towards Fethiye, where you can anchor at Ece Marina. The surrounding area is rich in history, with the Lycean rock tombs overlooking the town. Don't skip a visit to the 12 Islands, a series of small islets that offer stunning swimming spots and excellent snorkeling. Expect marina fees to be around €90 per night.

Continuing along the coast, sail to Kaş, a charming town with a laid-back atmosphere. Known for its crystal-clear waters, Kaş is perfect for diving enthusiasts. The local marina offers berthing at approximately €60 per night. Enjoy a meal at Sofra Restaurant, where fresh catch of the day is the star of the menu.

Finally, make your way to Antalya, a city that marries ancient history with contemporary luxury. The marina here can be pricier, with fees starting at €100 per night, but the views and amenities are worth it. Before you leave, take a stroll through the Old Town (Kaleiçi), where you can find boutique shops and cafes that capture the essence of Turkish culture.

Cruising the Turkish Riviera offers a unique opportunity to blend relaxation with exploration. Each stop presents a new facet of Turkey's rich maritime heritage, making it a worthy destination for any yacht itinerary. With a week-long cruise, you can experience both the vibrant coastal towns and serene nature that define this beautiful region.
